Welcome! I’ll be using this blog as a space to write about my adventures and my everyday life in Scotland. Join me as I make my way through a year studying History of Medicine at the University of Glasgow!
There’s a bit of catching up to do…
At this point, I’ve been in Scotland for about two months; I’ll try to get caught up on as much as possible without sounding too winded!
I landed in Scotland with my parents on September 2nd. Since that time, I feel like I’ve done so much already! Mom and Dad were only staying for a week so we planned to make the most of it. A majority of the week was spent exploring the campus and the wider city and figuring out how to do all of the shopping with no vehicle. However, we did manage to find the time to do some touristy things — after all, it was a mini vaca for Mom and Dad too 🙂
During the week we walked almost everywhere. According to my FitBit, we walked just under 60 miles in just seven days — kudos Mom and Dad! It was a really great way to get to know the city and the UofG campus and find my way around. We did take the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh one day and took a coach tour to the Western Highlands in the middle of the week, but more of that trip later.
I posted some of my favorite pictures from our week of exploring below!
I finally got to pick up the keys to my flat on Friday, 8 September so we spent the whole weekend shopping and getting it ready to be lived in for a year! My flat is in the West End of Glasgow which seems to be more residential and “green.” I definitely love the location as it is quieter and only a 25 minute walk to campus through the Botanic Gardens. I have only one flatmate, she’s from England, and between the two of us we have a massive kitchen! Everything in our flat is completely new which was a great surprise!
Mom and Dad were flying out early Monday morning so I said goodbye to them Sunday evening (10 Sept.) and spent the first night in my new flat! I think that’s when it finally hit me that I was in Scotland and would be for a whole year!
